Intermec Wins Exhibitor Best Solution Award at GTC West 2007

5/14/2007 - Denver, Colorado

A wireless mobile computing system developed by Intermec (NYSE: IN) and its Honours Partners 3i Infotech, MobileFrame and Cogent Systems for the City of San Jose has been named an Exhibitor Best Solution at this year’s GTC West Conference, being held today through May 18 in Sacramento, Calif. The award-winning solution was developed for the city of San Jose as part of its Electronic eCitation Project. It provides the city’s police department with a paperless system to issue traffic citations using Intermec CN3 handheld computers. The city is now able to collect 100 percent of its traffic citation revenue.

Exhibitor Best Solutions are awarded to companies who develop systems designed for a specific customer to help solve a particular problem. The solution must have resulted in significant benefits.

The end-to-end bundled solution was created by 3i Infotech and MobileFrame and operates on the Intermec CN3 ruggedized mobile computer. The solution enables San Jose Police officers to instantly capture information by swiping the driver’s license on an integrated magnetic strip reader and capture signatures electronically on the CN3’s touchscreen. The information is instantly uploaded to the city court’s database via the handheld computer’s wireless WAN connectivity. The CN3’s Bluetooth wireless technology lets officers instantly connect to mobile printers to print tickets in real time and its voice and data capabilities enable officers to connect and transfer data from anywhere. The device is rugged enough to survive an occasional splash of coffee or drop to concrete.

The Cogent Systems BlueCheck™ handheld fingerprint scanner remotely transfers secured captured fingerprint data to an automated fingerprint identification system. It receives the search results from the host and displays them on its LCD display, providing timely and accurate information for law enforcement personnel. Partnered with the CN3, it helps eliminate false disputes over fines by connecting the fine to the actual driver.

In addition to improving the city’s ability to collect revenue, the system improves worker safety by expediting procedures, which reduces the amount of time officers stand on highway shoulders.

Designed “by government for government,” GTC is the largest and most respected series of technology conferences for state and local government. Held annually in Albany, N.Y.; Austin, Texas; and Sacramento, Calif., GTC delivers a cutting-edge educational program addressing the most important policy, management and technology issues facing government today.
